John C. Winston Co.(1905-? )
Winston founded his company in 1884. It was primarily a publisher of Bibles until it bought the stock of Henry T. Coates and Company in 1904. This instantly made Winston a major publisher of juveniles. One year later it bought the stock of William Collins Company, a major publisher of religious materials. In later years Winston became a major publisher of textbooks. Winston died in 1920.. [from The Tom Brown Series by Tom Hughes]
